history

In 2008, YOM sent its first mission team to Romania, led by Mark and Melany Goetsch. Since then, teams have returned each year—except in 2012 and during COVID-19. The early trips focused on camp ministry in Sighetu Marmației, but today’s efforts are centered in Medieșu Aurit and Sânmihaiu Almașului, partnering with missionaries to reach the Romani communities of Romania.

Highlights from past trips

  • In most years, God has allowed us the privilege to work with 40+ boys and girls in each of the villages.  It is always exciting to see some come to know Christ as their Savior and others who, in earlier years, put their faith in Christ, still growing and continuing.
  • We’re thrilled each year to see a large number of boys and girls trust Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, as the invitation is given on Thursday evening.
  • We’re amazed each year at the growth of the believers in the gypsy church in Mediestu. Each year, we run a VBS-type program in the morning for the boys and girls. In a village with around 150 children, we’ve seen as many as 70 children come for a morning of activities, including Bible lessons, review games, scripture memory, games, crafts, and basic English education. In the evenings, we meet under the tent for a service and have seen the villagers come out for a time of singing, testimonies, and Bible preaching.

Now, YOM is planning its 13th mission trip to Romania next summer. Please pray about joining our team!
