Monday was our transition and sightseeing day as we checked out of our hotel in San Mihi and concluded our time with missionaries Jordan and Ruben Cristinoiu. The Lord then moved us about two hours away to the Romani village of Mediesu Aurit, where we would begin a new phase of ministry.
On the way, we visited the salt mines at Turda, descending multiple flights of stairs to reach the main level deep underground. Down below there are shops for souvenirs and a variety of activities—putt-putt, ping pong, pool, or simply relaxing in the cool air of the mine. Some of our team took the extra challenge and went all the way to the bottom, another long set of stairs, where there is a lake and rowboats. Several jumped into boats and made their way around the underground lake, then faced the many steps back to the top. We also enjoyed souvenir shopping in Cluj and made a fun stop at three familiar American places: Burger King, Popeyes, and Starbucks. By 10 p.m., we arrived in Mediesu Aurit, settled into our hotel, and prepared our hearts and materials for ministry the next day.
